Yes I'm well aware of all the variables. These are the standard
'tools' which also include averaging and comparing, that are
available with a Spectrolino and ProfileMaker Pro. 
Obviously a good understanding of them and how they affect the
construction and attributes of a profile  is essential, but I can't
quite see how this explains your opposition to averaging and why you
regard it as 'non-purist'.
