My host is currently using UNIX servers, and the only thing I had to do was
to ask for a password protected folder , I chose the name of the Folder,
the login and password and it was set up by them. I can ask for as many
Password protected folders as I might need, like one for each client, I
have now just one, called "Docs" and is working well for me.

I upload and then people get a link in the form

 www.jorgeparra.com/Docs/Client Name/ images.sit

[You can test by using only www.jorgeparra.com/Docs and you will get the
dialog box requesting user name and password]

As I said, I add an additional password to the encrypted file, adding one
further level of security to the data. I submit server's login and password
from one e-mail account and the password for the compressed files by another
email account. Clients LOVE this paranoid thing.

However, I understand some FTP apps may provide some password protection
features during FTP activity. I have not explored this option, since as I
said, I rather keep my access to my server only to myself.

Best
