I think the answer to the dust spots is to clean the sensor. I struggled with dust-busting until I discovered a technique to get the sensor of my 1ds clean. I have heard that the 14n is easier to clean so you should be able to shoot without dust.
There should be something in the archive about this but if you cannot find it I'll try and find it and re-post.
