Further to this topic, I have spoken to the printer who denied that it was my fault in the least! (weren't expecting that, were you?)
Nonetheless, from what I have learned from Stephen and reading a bit of Dan Margulis' chapeter on GCR etc., I see that I have made his job a great deal more difficult. He offered to reprint, as he felt that the variation was unacceptable over the run. I suggested to him that for the experience for us both, he take the new file (that was prepared using the action that Stephen kindly sent me). He was happy to do that. He also wants to send me a proof which I will see if I like and then he will ensure the run prints to that colour. Interesting that he took all the blame. I spent some time explaining what Stephen had observed about the file and the GCR etc, but he was not (I suspect) on the same wavelength. I find it hard enough to follow myself, as I feel a bit out of my depth. I feel that I am beginning to understand it, though. Anyway this is where we stand now. I will prepare this file and we will end up with 5000 postcards of the same image! (already it seemed that 2500 was more than necessary). But this has been an interesting learning experience.
