I recall my sis in law insisted on buying a Toshiba earlier this year, and she had nothing but problems. Got replaced and sent back numerous times. Seems that an application she uses (Luna - I think) was giving the machine an allergic reaction...
Possibly Toshibas are just not as good as Toshiba think they are?
I have no particular brand loyalty, but unless they've deteriorated recently I have no reason to believe Toshibas are duff. On the contrary, I still have my original (well, my son has) Satellite 2100 bought maybe 7 years ago, very rugged, never failed, just outmoded (2 gig HD, no CD slot). It's why I bought another Toshiba in Jan 2003 - again, never failed, fine machine. Perhaps the laptop in question is a dud example - I know someone who bought a duff Mercedes.
