I am one of those so called lurkers, very rarely say anything as I know a lot less then you great folk. However on this topic I will put in my two pennith worth in. I have as a setup where I use an Acer laptop plus external hard drives monitor etc. and with regards to laptops slowing down through over heating I could not agree more. The main time this has happened was thelast two summers when temperatures were in the high 20's.
The first time it happened I realised everything was grinding to a halt and couldn't explain it. then I felt laptop and external drives a and they were all red hot. The solution I used was I took a fan and placed it facing the drives and laptop. Within ten minutes computer was back up to speed and working normally. Fan kept me cool as well.
I not saying there is not a problem with the laptop in this case if this happens all the time, but there is a connection between speed and heat.
Being a windows user when the machine first slowed down I thought I might have a virus. Thankfully that was not the case.

Thanks for your suggestions. They specifically requested that the power supply was not sent back...and yes I am not going to give up<G>
Thanks also to Pete Jenkins. The first time they had it back they said that the CPU was full of dust, but I know that was B*****ks because I had already cleaned it out and there was minimal dust in the cooling system!
