We have any number of valuable negatives that have been damaged over the
years by careless labs. These can be a nightmare to clean thoroughly.
Sandwiching in oil between glass, as with our previous scanner, is no longer
an option. Is the degredation induced by the filter enough to preclude its
use? Does it do a good job on scratches which are more of a problem than
dust?

Dear Jim

I have heard of mixed results but you might like to consider re-washing, swabbing followed by a stab. or Photoflow rinse before being dried in a clean drying cabinet.

Of course the best option is to have them carefully drum scanned using fluid mounting. This generally will remove most problems unless the film is in a shocking condition, in which case re-washing as a pre-treatment is advisable to drum scanning. Having run an Imacon for some years I do understand your plight!

Cheers Richard
