The thing I would worry about is that the website is not available when the 
customer tries to activate and his system goes down.

My activation program is awesome (if I do say so myself) and has been 
working perfectly for about a year and I would be glad to share it with 
you!  Anyone else of course.  ;^)
It allows for multiple keys - which I use a phone number without the 
area code - where I can customize the application based on the key.  I 
use the key to display custom logos, or custom reports.
