Right. Understood. What I think John was saying was that as part of the install/setup process, you could require that their email address must be at the very least "usable" and accessible by them by sending something BACK to them (after they send their email address to you). The something you sent back to them must be used (a key #, passcode, etc.) to actually use your demo application that they downloaded.
The problem is that many, if not most, folks have discardable email addresses...that is used when they suspect they'll be spammed. I have three email addresses that I use daily, but I only give my "real" address to people I trust. My discardable address is a Yahoo account.
