I think you can use VFP 9 as follows:

set tablevalidate to 0

use yourdostable exclusive
set index to yourdosindex
reindex

Do not attempt to erase the index because no version of the fox keeps the index expression in its memory

FWIW, I have a working copy of FOXPRO 2.6 and if you want to send me the tables and their indexes in a zip file, I could try to recover them.
