I am fully aware of term limits (which I think are insanely anti-democratic by the way). But the vote was very much a repudiation of George Bush more so than McCain or Republican politics. And I'm only quoting what a lot of other people are saying that GWB is the worst President in living memory. His disapproval ratings are the worse on over 50 years and then only just so. Jimmy Carter was weak and ineffectual but still stands above Bush in most people's estimation.
