Yep the common factor in this thread isn't a specific virus scanner, but 
the operating system the scanner is running on.

I've never tried to run a virus scan on any of my Macs (haven't ever 
perceived a need to) but I do periodically run virus scans on my Linux 
servers and workstations and have never noticed any performance 
problems. Never found any virus infections, either.

I know, apples to oranges.
