Thank you all for your support.

After downloading the latest Qt online.run file for linux, I could not get
the Ubuntu laucher to accept the file.  I did not try to build Qt5. But I
did try out many of the Qt demos as well as Showcase demos.  All worked
fine including those involving videos.

Of course, changing my default video player did not help.
