sourceforge.net has some (optional) svn post-commit scripts in place which 
sends an email. Perhaps they'd be willing to share the script, or perhaps its 
already in the public domain (google?)

Good question.

If we do go svn only - svn will need the post-commit scripting that cvs 
currently has.
