Hello, I doubt having a demonstration copy install is your issue here. When I 
first started with ProTools it was as a demo and I don't recall us ever being a 
problem. If you're using ProTools 11, unselect every track in the project, 
using voice over . Then reselect only the track that you wish to delete 
material from. The fact that you can delete audio using the tutorials just 
makes me there is just a selection problem going on here. Feel free to write me 
privately and perhaps I can give you a step-by-step
