If I wanted to use my master mix surface which really has a
sweet jog wheel and worked well
with pt, I would have to go down to Maverick as they say it stopped working in
Yossemity.

Currently running Pro Tools 12.5 here in Yosemite. Any reason to downgrade to
Mavericks? BTW, either OS works. Here's the qualifying chart for Mac:

I might give this serious fault. My
macbook pro is 4 years old now. If I ever get a newer mac, it will be a tower
system, not a laptop. I could care less about the new features in el capitan.
I would rather have pt working the way it should. Maverick solved some of the
accessibility problems with pro tools not reading certain numeric values and
the like. And apple still hasn’t made the midi studio accessible. If I
removed the Dvd drive, I could put in a second HD and run boot camp to switch
between the os’s if I wanted to.

I am running ProTools 12 and Mavericks. I had problem with Yosemite and had to
roll back. All of that stuff works well with the latest version of logic as
well on those older operating systems. I am not going to upgrade myself out of
house and home I have thisDAW Running well I am going to keep it that way. I
have a nice quick hard drive in the old laptop I have my CD drive I have no
interest in a newer Apple Computer.

run pro tools 12? I really liked maverick the best, but I would think
yossemity would be as far back as you could go.

Hi Gordon I believe if you took your laptop in and have it rolled back to
Mavericks or Yosemite your problem would be solved. If there is an issue that
you need the newer update I understand but it may be cheaper and I know there
is no learning curve there. I use my Presonus studio live for my console. It
will not support El Capitan as well. I just bought a control surface and mackie
MCU pro may not support it as well. I have heard that it did run with El
Capitan.
I am not going to take that chance. But all those surface issues you
mentioned could be solved by abandoning El Capitan.

Back when I was running pt 10 with the older os’s mountain lion etc., I had it
working great with my alesis master control audio interface/control surface.
Now alesis is no longer supporting it with el capitan. I don’t think my
m-audio project mix or the behringer bcf2000 will work either. Are we
relegated to having to buy the Avid artist series surface? Would that be good
enough or do we really need to spring for the s3.
