It is if you have a short lead on your external microphone as I do.  It
still picks up the clicking which really annoys me.

The clicking noise is the drive moving inside the PCMCIA card if using
the internal mic, if using an external mic this is not an issue, also is
not an issue if using solid state media such as the flash cards/memory
sticks/MMC cards with their respective PCMCIA adaptors.

Brian,

When you asked about using a Flash card, I thought that's what you
wanted to do.  You can, the Type 2, and if you want a lot of storage
space it's probably going to be cheaper.  The down side is that the
PCMCIA card (so I
understand) is mechanical and you can hear the clicking from time to
time.
I gather you don't hear it if you use a Compact Flash card with a PCMCIA
adapter.
