The sword of Damocles is hanging on its head. Unless a consortium is erected to support Python2, no vendor will be able to use it in the medium term. Given the recent events, maybe that's exactly what's going to happen. A business consortium will take it on themselves to support and enhance Python2 ad infinitum. I wouldn't be surprised.
