That is exactly what I ment.
So, +1 from me for an import/export-wrapper!

Two more aspects in that regards:
The one is, that if you for example run v.clean through Sextante on a
polygon layer containing polygons with overlapping areas, the overlapp
errors are (silently) cleaned during import and therefore not written to the
final error-output-layer in v.clean...
The other is, that one single tool of v.clean often (usually?) is not enough
to really clean topological errors (in polygon layers) sufficiant. So,
beeing able to run a squence of v.clean-tools (like in GRASS) would be a
performance improvement for advanced topology cleaning I suppose, especially
when working with bigger datasets...
