As the QL works without SGC then it is not the (usual) 8301 problem.
Have you ever used this SGC before?
Check that you have not bent any of the QL edge connector pins - it is
very easy to do this at the ends. If so, then take off the case top,
unscrew the motherboard (one screw only near the edge connector) and
raise the end of the board above the case bottom. Then - maybe with a
jewellers screwdriver, CAREFULLY bend the pin back. It is not like chip
legs, and is very brittle. You may find the pin has a second bend in it
half way down too. Thin long nose pliers or strong tweezers can sort
this.
I doubt if it is a power supply problem. Easy to check, just monitor
the 5v rail on QL and SGC.
Also remove and replace all plug in chips. The PLCC ones need very
careful removal - it is easy to crack the sockets if you are not using
the proper tool. Wiggle the ram about too - the chips sitting
vertically.
