Hi Geoff, first of all, after some checking up yes PCL6 is somewhat different... as I deleted the mail myself I don't exactly remember if I mentioned PCL or PCL6 but in anycase I meant PCL... Now... about comms between PCL printers and host systems... IT HAS TO BE IN BINARY format...
