I could think of a 3rd way :) Use the range selection and select the
complete track.

The link in the database comes handy if you keep the same element in
several folders. For example if you do a hike and you found some
geocaches. You have a folder documenting the hike and you have a folder
collecting all your geocache finds. Those two folders will share items.
And if you edit an item in the folder it should be changed in the other
one, too.

This is fundamentally different to a file system where you copy files
over and over again, ending up in N different versions of the same
element. Never knowing which one is the latest.

In QLGT I used hardcopies to preserve the original tracks. This is void
in QMS as there is a history stored with the track. All track operations
like cut, combine, reverse and range copy will create a completely new
track and preserve the original one.

So I really do not miss a hardcopy. But I observe a constant confusion
of users in the Garmin forum concerning Basecamp because they do not get
the difference between copy and duplicate. And I never understand why
they want to duplicate an item in the first place.
