Well that is more or less what I suggested under c)

The question itself can't be avoided. At this point only the user can tell if 
the database should link and 
maybe update the item or add a clone.

As QMS internally calculates a hash for each revision of the item it is 
possible to detect if an item has 
been changed. However it is impossible to tell what is different. And as items 
are very complex it is 
hard to show a meaningful side-by-side compare.

So it's still up to the user to understand the problem and to choose the 
appropriate way to add that 
item. Probably the most difficult choice is the selection if an item with 
differences and with several 
links in the database should be updated or not.

Anyway it's quite some work for a very rare case in my usage. So my motivation 
to spend the time is 
low.
