Gang,
First of all, I apologize that the subject matter was really off-topic as it
had little to do with QRP activities. But I appreciate all the comments and
suggestions. While I knew this concept was much too simple to be unique, I
had no idea that Doug Hendricks had passed it along to the folks in Newington
so long ago.
There is no need to apologize....Unlike some lists, I started this one so that
we could discuss things that affect our QRP operations...and thus, The League,
FCC and tons of things are on topic.
I don't expect to see foxhunts, etc. here...since QRP-L does that very well.
What I am hoping is that this list can be a venue for folks that want to be
pro-active about QRP and Amateur radio in general.
In much the same way, local clubs and the ARRL, will continue to believe that
youngsters *want* to be ham radio operators but we just aren't getting the
message across to them correctly. So they do more planning, reconnoiter, and
try again. Expending ever more energy and capital to attract youngsters. This
too is a bit of maniacal arrogance. But these facts won't matter. There seems
to be enough emotional energy (like 'The Big Project' or seeing the
occasional 12 year old Extra class operator on the cover of QST) to do this
at any cost.
Very astute observation...hopefully folks here and in other venues can work
towards attracting older folks to the hobby.
I'm looking forward to working on expanding the number of hams.
