Actually this is just what hams do best.
You are right on that discussions of antennas is typical and normal
fodder any QSO or mail ing list. But the guys on QRP-L always had
such a panache for hosing it up. Generally, someone would post
something to the effect that he had just got his license and the only
antenna support he has is a 40 foot maple tree in the middle of his
yard and what should he use. Decent suggestions usually followed for
the first few posts then it breaks down into drivel about "this"
antenna being better than "that" antenna and eventually someone (you
know who) would inject some crackpot pseudo-science into the equation
and the resulting follow-ups would send everyone scurrying for cover.
Sure would have been nice if there had been an FAQ or WiKi about
simple wire antennas to point the newbies to. Of course, if you take
away the arguing over dipole technology and the archives for the last
few years on QRP-L could fit on a flash drive! :-)
P.S....Since you guys are excited, I guess you may not know that
both the
norcal club and the njqrp club released some LONG awaited kits. These
announcements were made with the usual fanfare, pomp, and such over
this
long weekend.
Repeat after me, "I won't do surface mount", "I won't do surface mount".
I am going back to tubes. I want to build a circa 1930 TNT
transmitter. Anyone got a link for plans?
