Doing even 200 kits is a royal pain in the arse. And each additional 100
doubles the trouble involved until you get to REALLY large numbers, like
oh say 4000.

And Doug no longer has fully time free help like before his mentor died.
(Great man BTW.)

So...even doing 200 kits is a big deal. And this way, if it is a dud, and
yes Norcal has had those plenty of times in the past, the displeasure is
limited, as is any make goods on free parts because of "misteaks".

Having said all of that, I am surprised that Norcal has not done some "as
designed" prototypes to test feasibility. This has helped them avoid
problems in the past, and I would have thought that would be a good idea
on this one, but apparently there were some significant last minute
changes that have only been built up ONCE (i.e. a single mock-up).
