We do Game Maker for a term with our year 10 computer edn class. Our
students have to write a game design document using the headings below
which is supplied to them in template form. Thanks to Kym, I'll be adapting
it for the next class. They are not permitted to start their project until
they have submitted their design document. Students are also required to
keep a word processed journal on their progress as they develop their game
by writing a diary entry in the last few minutes each lesson. This was to
assist them in writing an evaluation once the game was completed. Next time
I'm hoping to have them create a blog with screen dumps. Having the
students write about their project helped to ensure it was their own work.

Our girls have to write a game plan before they start creating their game Š
in theory, that is. See attaché.

Hi

I've been concerned for a while about the cursory treatment of the design
phase in programming that can often with students, especially in an
environment like GameMaker.

Has anyone successfully explored paper prototyping as a means of getting
them take this part of the process more seriously?

Paul
