Some folks attribute serious healing power to apple cider and other types of
vinegar. It works well as a mild anti infective where it is used as a rinse or
cleanser. It doesn't touch most serious bacteria so I classify it mostly as
something to keep your body's Ph in balance by drinking some in much the same
way you might drink wine.
Repetitious UTI's need anti-biotics and it is worth it to get Ph strips from
the Rx and take vitamin C until your urine reaches the proper acidic level. I
personally only need about 1 gram of vitamin C a day. When I had an indwelling
catheter I was taking 6grams (6000 mgs). I supplemented it with mendelamine.
This is the trick. With mendelamine you must keep the proper Ph level. It
actually turns to a mild formaldehyde in your bladder. So you must drink plenty
of water. If your doctor wants you to take anti-biotics prophylactically, ask
that he rotates several anti-biotics. Don't forget to take acidopholus
following anti biotics. If you havent had an IVP in a long time, this could do
you a lot of good. There are drugs to wash small stones from your kidneys that
can be a source of re-infection.
http://www.anytestkits.com/utk-ph-of-urine.htm this site explains urine Ph
testing and it can be a cheap way to get out in front of the next infection and
even prevent it.
I wish you the very best Silas. I know how miserable those infections can be.

john

I don't usually wait on the lab. I start by taking bactrim DS if I have a fun
infection with a lot of debris. Bactrim DS is strong stuff and I have pretty
good luck at taking it for 3-5 days for results. If it is real red and smelly I
take Ciprofloxin. If I take either one and nothing happens in two days I switch
to the other one. I usually pick the right one. The lab usually comes back with
a newer drug recommendation. I've actually had the lab come back saying there
was no infection. I figure labs make mistakes, too. There is an artform to
obtaining a good sample for them.
If I have 2 or 3 organizims I go with Cipro because it is more broad spectrum.
It just kills everything. Always follow anti biotics with acidopholus about an
hour later. This replaces the good bacteria you just annihalated. Anti biotics
don't determine good from bad, they kill it all. That is why it so often causes
constipation or the opposite. I don't need a lab to tell me I have an infection
and I only send samples when I can't get results or I haven't seen this before.
(such as black urine)
As you see, I too play a guessing game. I just don't wait for a lab tech to
tell me when to begin. ;) My cultures take a week usually. I got some apple
cider vinegar. I've been trying different vinegars. Got to be carefull. Some
vinegar will make my bowels move faster than any laxative. I think the wine
helps too as long as it is done in moderation.
If someone else does most of their own treating of infections and has a
different approach, please put in your two cents. I've had doctors disagree
about letting me have my own anti biotics.
Final tip: keep records of how you treat infections. Include your diet and
drinks as well as vital statistics. Describe your urine and bowel movements. My
doctor loves those details. He seems to be very good at finding solutions when
he has good details about your life. I try to keep a daily chart even when I
feel fine. I think it helps me to see when I'm eating too much junk. Helped me
spot Senna as the reason my urine turned black.
I hope that helps Dan.

Good luck,
john

Hey John.........did you ever get your culture back to see what kind of
bacteria infection you have? Mine came back saying more than 3 organisms,, so
my doctor is just guessing having me on macrobid because it has worked twice in
the past. I'm going to have my doctor tell the Lab to IDENTIFY ALL Organisms
from now on..............because they Always throw mine out saying more than 2
or 3 organisms. Then we play a guessing game on how to treat it.

I knew a nurse that would use a vinegar and honey or royal jelly concoction of

Nobody ever claims vinegar does miricles but all quads should drink some once
every few days. It is another of those anti-infectives. Like anything else you
use as a medication, keep track of how you use it.
I've heard it used by paras after they intermittant cath themselves by
injecting it mixed with sterile water and drawing it back out with a syring.
I think someone in an early e-mail asked how you test the Ph of your urine. You
can buy Ph test strip at any Rx. You dip it in a urine sample and after 10
seconds you match the color to the the colors on the dispenser to establish
your Ph. You can save yourself a lot of doctor visits with anti-infectives.
I think, if you have an aid to help you, you can learn what you can do to feel
good without needing strong anti biotics and pain meds.

Vinegar is 5% acid. Anything more is not vinegar, but rather another product.
Check to bottle or container.

Dan,
Vinegars are as varied as wines. Yes, they are made to drink and have claimed
medicinal powers since ancient greeks. The idea is to find a balance. Even
using them topically is common in some books on healing. I don't know which
wine or vinegar is best for which infection, but I'm certain there is a book on
it. many vinegars are delightful tasting and very good for you. Chianti wine is
suppose to be served warm with honey but I've heard it is good for skin
problems. Explains the taste. Let me know what you find out if you decide to
get into it. My arthritis is not responding to anything. Good luck
