Why is hospitalization necessary?

I've always taken the dreaded GoLightly and hop in bed with a gzillion chux.
My aides remove the soiled underpads as needed.  When I'm done I go to sleep.
Wake up, go to outpatient, have the colonoscopy and go home.

Guess I'm just an "I can do that" kind of person.

Meredith,
In my experience when I am getting blocked up I get a liquefied stool without
any hard stool. It's different than diarrhea.

I don't know why you can't take a colonoscopy. It's difficult for
quadriplegics, but it can definitely be done. The protocol here is really
intensive and requires hospitalization.

Just wondering, what tests are taken to see if one is blocked up? I'm not
really able to do a colonoscopy according to the Doc I spoke to.
