Hi Tom & all;
  You cannot "OPEN" an extension as you would open say, a folder or a
control panel. The dialog box that comes up when you double click on an
extension is a bit misleading to say the least.
  You can do a get info on it or turn it on or off in the extensions, but
you cannot open it without special software. HTH
