The oxygen sensor is something else that can be tested by disconnecting it.
The engine will still run pretty well without it but if it's there but giving a faulty signal the ecu can get confused.

Also - has the car been standing - may be dirt / water in the fuel -
that can do funnies as well. Check the dizzy cap / rotor arm (again if
ifitted)
