Follow these steps and report the results:

In the "Hardware" tab, i had a list where were my audio devices (Cd drive,
sound card and so). There wasn't any "midi" comboBox. In the "Defaults" tab,
I had in the "midi" ComboBox only 1 item -- it was Microsoft gs wavetable sw
synthesizer.
The following are details of my hardware, if it helps:
Processor: Amd athlon 64 x2 3800+ (dualcore)
Graphics card: Ati radeon Xpress1150
Motherboard: Asus m2r-fvm
SoundCard: Realtec high definition audio (possibly built-in to the
motherboard)
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP home edition sp2
