Wow, that explains a lot. On my other computer I used to have some Creative
drivers, I think, but since someone had it before I did, I don't know what
the heck he may have installed and I didn't bother looking.
That computer did have an m-audio card, but, although it had Asio drivers,
it did not work with midi input, or midi output either, which is why I am a
bit hessitant on getting one.
As the case is I am about to upgrade ram to 1256MB, maybe 2GB sometime soon,
but that really won't help anything.
Well then, off to get another soundcard...

Yes, it sounds like you are experiencing a latency problem, caused by the
m m e driver that your on board soundmax card is using. There are no asio
drivers for it. You will indeed need a better soundcard. Soundmax was not
designed to meet the needs you are asking from it now, but don't worry. A
good soundcard could be something like a delta 44 from m-audio. That is
something good to begin with. It has asio drivers and costs around 170
American dollars or so. Its control panel is accessible too, which is
something you should be well aware of, when buying a new sound card.

A few weeks ago I had trouble with synthfont and midi input. I have
changed keyboards and computer setups. Here's the new configuration,
along with new problems which I believe are easily fixed, I just need
your help.
Windows: xp home
Ram: 512mb
synthfont version: 1.2.1 or something like that
soundcard: sound max digital audio
Synthfont settings: buffer size 3072, number of buffers 3, I think.
(Jaws isn't really clear on where I'm at)
I am almost confident enabling Acio would help, but there is no enable
acio option! I'm guessing I need some acio drivers or something? Now, I'm
having an extreme lag in midi events, 150ms or so. If I adjust buffering
settings to decrease lag, sound breaks up. Playback of midis with
synthfont can be made very responsive with no issues like the ones I'm
having with midi input.
Any guidance?
