Hi Jackie,
Well all was well until I got to your step 6 below. When I tabbed to
the listview, there was only one option available: MPU-401 compatable
midi device.
Should I try this choice even though everywhere else on my computer I
see the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth listed as my sound card?
Thanks much,
Johnny

Johnny, u can insert tracks from now till the cows come home & it
won't fix this.
Tell u what let's do:
1) Go to control panel, then add hardware;
2) Click next when the wizard starts, then lie & tell it you've
connected the new hardware & click next;
3) Press the end key to go to "add a new hardware device & press enter;
4) Choose the 'install the hardware that I manually select from a
list' option & hit enter;
5) Choose 'sound, video, & game controllers' & click next (enter);
6) Choose Microsoft as the manufacturer, then tab into the listview &
select gs wavetable synth as your new hardware.
See if that doesn't help.
