I've been thinking about this situation.

QWS will only record what's coming in. This indicates to me that there is
additional content on other channels coming from the keyboard as drum data
that isn't on channel 10. Most keyboards don't send program change messages
when they start playing, so of course since the track doesn't have the right
program change set for channel 9 it will default to 0, which is most often
a piano sound in general MIDI derived sound sets. (like XG stuff, for
example)
The question here is what patch the style is using for channel 9. Inputting
that proper patch number should resolve the problem.

The problem is not QWS, of course, as it's just recording what it's hearing,
not changing anything.

Try this:

First play the sequence. Listen to where the piano notes hit. Now once
you've got a feel where those notes hit drop the tempo on the keyboard to a
slow speed and turn on the style. Listen at those spots where the piano
played in your recorded sequence and hear what is playing that line on the
keyboard. This will tell you what sound they have on Channel 9.

Well someone once sent a Yamaha PSR-E403 definition to the list, and by what

I know it has very little difference from the E413. The thing is: I am not
sure if the instrument definition would have something to do with the
problem, since the sounds are coming out strange even if I leave only the
drums turned on and the program's channel to 0. It comes a piano track on
channel 9 if I do channel split even if there should only be the drum
sounds. I tried to do gm reset, gm2 rese, gs reset, xg reset, nothing worked

as expected... But I'll keep on trying or fixing those things manually...

Thanks anyway!
André.

Andre, does your keyboard have an instrument definition list? That
might be the problem? I don't know--I don't have a yamaha--but I
thought it might have different instruments than just the standard
midi instruments that qws is configured to use by default. Just a
thought. Does your keyboard also use xg? U might also need to send an
xg message to qws in order to make stuff work correctly. Dewald might
know more, & James Bowden, the program author, monitors this list, so
I think I'll keep my mouth shut now so as not to insert foot any
further & defer to them, since I'm just making a WAG or 2 anyway.

Blame the computer--why not? It can't defend itself & occasionally
might even be the culprit
