Yeh, tell me about it. Like putting buttons for the two tracks, track 2
to the left, and track 1 on the right hand side. :)
But i love my Yamaha keyboard ...
The Yamaha people are very friendly and helpful.
I played on the Yamaha Key Performers of Note competition the other day.
Was a nice experience.

Your staccato piano sound is a percussion instrument that is routed to
another channel, probably something that isn't a part of the normal
percussion map. It sets channels around channel 10 because that's the
standard.
These consumer level keyboards do some non-standard things with what
they
play, and Yamaha is notorious for creating their own terms and standards
just to be different from everyone else.

Andre.
Thanks about your step by step thing.
That actually answered a question i had.
That the left part of my keyboard to control the harmony of the style
didn't
want to play when i activated syncro start and recording on QWS.
But using the function of style data solved it. Smile.
Could you please just explain what you mean by strange sounds being
played
back to you.
I also get weird sounds sometimes, but only when i lost a connection
between
QWS and my keyboard.
Then the guitarres, bass, strings, everything of the style is played
back as
piano, except the drums of course, because that's on channel 10, and the
rest is on channel 0.
But, i've also noticed that QWS sometimes creates a track with nothing
on
it, except this small staccato piano notes now and again.
Almost simular to that flute clicks instrument listing on my keyboard.
It's only one specific staccato note not even in the harmony of my
piece,
just playing repetitively.
I actually wonder why it splits the channels into channels 9, 11, 12,
13,
etc.
And not beginning at 1, and then, 2, 3, etc. for all the different
patches
of the style.
I've rearanged the patches "instruments" of a style, and it sounds cool!
Of course i'd have to do some editting once i've recorded the style,
because
sometimes when switching over to another chord, i press the note too
late
and then it leaves some staccato notes in the note editor, which i just
delete.
:)
Just imagine what nice sterio sounds one could make with the instruments
of
a style.
Guitarre panned to the left, piano to the right, drums in the middle,
strings duplicated, and placed on each side ... etc.
Oh yes, so by the way, i've created my own Yamaha PSR-E323 instrument
list,
which i will send to James when he's back in the new year.
It's quite easy. I used my Yamaha manual and the E403 instrument list as
a
reference, and just removed exstra entries, for example:
a sweet flute entry, which my keyboard doesn't have.
In your case, you'll probably have some exstra instruments.
Just refer to your manual to see what you have exstra.
It works quite nicely if you have an instrument list. Makes it easier!
God bless,
Dewald.

Subject: RE: QWS List Strange behavior between a keyboard and a
computer:
I've been thinking about this situation.
QWS will only record what's coming in. This indicates to me that there
is
additional content on other channels coming from the keyboard as drum
data
that isn't on channel 10. Most keyboards don't send program change
messages
when they start playing, so of course since the track doesn't have the
right
program change set for channel 9 it will default to 0, which is most
often
a piano sound in general MIDI derived sound sets. (like XG stuff, for
example)
The question here is what patch the style is using for channel 9.
Inputting
that proper patch number should resolve the problem.
The problem is not QWS, of course, as it's just recording what it's
hearing,
not changing anything.
Try this:
First play the sequence. Listen to where the piano notes hit. Now once
you've got a feel where those notes hit drop the tempo on the keyboard
to a
slow speed and turn on the style. Listen at those spots where the piano
played in your recorded sequence and hear what is playing that line on
the
keyboard. This will tell you what sound they have on Channel 9.

Well someone once sent a Yamaha PSR-E403 definition to the list, and by
what
I know it has very little difference from the E413. The thing is: I am
not
sure if the instrument definition would have something to do with the
problem, since the sounds are coming out strange even if I leave only
the
drums turned on and the program's channel to 0. It comes a piano track
on
channel 9 if I do channel split even if there should only be the drum
sounds. I tried to do gm reset, gm2 rese, gs reset, xg reset, nothing
worked
as expected... But I'll keep on trying or fixing those things
manually...
Thanks anyway!

Andre, does your keyboard have an instrument definition list? That
might be the problem? I don't know--I don't have a yamaha--but I
thought it might have different instruments than just the standard
midi instruments that qws is configured to use by default. Just a
thought. Does your keyboard also use xg? U might also need to send an
xg message to qws in order to make stuff work correctly. Dewald might
know more, & James Bowden, the program author, monitors this list, so
I think I'll keep my mouth shut now so as not to insert foot any
further & defer to them, since I'm just making a WAG or 2 anyway.

6) press the start/stop button and here comes drums mixed with piano,
etc...
Thanks for trying to help!

Explain to me what you do step by step.
Mine also does that sometimes, like when i load the "not yet split"
file
into QWS, it plays everything as piano except the drums.
Then is just set the number of the style on my keyboard, and it plays
back
alright.

Hello everyone!
I have a Yamaha PSR-E413 keyboard and yesterday found out where to
configure it so that the style would be sent to the computer through
the
USB
cable, thus being detected by QWS. The thing is that it seems to be
sending
the wrong instruments. What could be happening? Note that the channel
in
QWS
was left at 0 so it would work, but when I did channel split, even some
drums were in the wrong place...
Thanks,
André.
