Ah, I see the point of your confusion. Try this: Launch QWS and add a new track with your instrument of choice.
Go to your instrument and select a patch, either by turning the selector with arrow keys, a jog-wheel, or via direct-entry on a keypad, whatever it takes. QWS stores it in the track probably, however it does nhot automatically index the instrument definition so you don't really know what you've selected. What I'm proposing is that the program change MIDI message be indexed to the instrument definition some way somehow and the name of the selected patch be displayed.
