You sure about that? It always has worked for me. Across three different
hardware synths.
I can change patches on my Juno and have the instrument list not the patch
or bank, highlighted, and it will update perfectly well and tell me what's
changed.
Since it gets that info from the other two boxes in the track view, surely
the instrument list is simply the obvious thing to also be updated?
Strange for you that it doesn't work.

Ah, I see the point of your confusion. Try this:
Launch QWS and add a new track with your instrument of choice.
Go to your instrument and select a patch, either by turning the
selector with arrow keys, a jog-wheel, or via direct-entry on a
keypad, whatever it takes. QWS stores it in the track probably,
however it does nhot automatically index the instrument definition so
you don't really know what you've selected.
What I'm proposing is that the program change MIDI message be indexed
to the instrument definition some way somehow and the name of the
selected patch be displayed.

Hi folks,
I'm just a bit confused why you think you can't have patch names read
out already:
Try this:
Go into track properties, navigate to the Instrument list and then
change the programs. The instrument list should automatically reflect
whatever is picked up and your screen reader *should* read the change.
Does it work for you?
Best regards,
James.

I'll get behind ya on that one. It's worth a nice donation, at the
very least.

HI, o boy I have to say I'd be happy to put dollars behind your second
request.
Even though I have a copy of the program and regularly use it I'd be
more
than happy to see it change to a paid program from freeware for that 1
option, I'd even pre-order.
really nice idea, <smile>.
Cheers!

I *love* this capability and wish it could be expanded in the
following ways:
1. Remove the necessity for going into track properties and just
accept the MIDI messages from the keyboard or whatever is on the other
end.
2. This one's a really way-out wish. When program change messages come
in from the keyboard or rack module, look them up in the loaded
instrument definition list and automatically place the name somewhere
on the screen and speak it. What this would get us is a
one-stop/one-place way of changing patches without having to take
one's hands off one's keyboard or rack module whilst selecting the
patch one wants to use.
