Yes, a reset on your Yamaha would be a good idea if something's changed in
its response to MIDI commands.

Hello Nicole. My Yamaha is a S90ES and it is about 12 years old. I was able
to record with it up till about a month or so. Then, I tried again today and
it does not work. Do you think if I reset my midi settens on my Yamaha, will
that take care of the problem. Thanks for all of your help that you are
trying to give me. I really appreciate it thanks.

Hmmm, how old is this Yamaha instrument you have? It sounds like it might
not be able to get MIDI data from multiple channels at the same time.
Do you have the manual for it? Yamaha has put all kinds of manuals online,
and in my experience it's a rare piece of gear that doesn't have a manual on
their site. If you have the manual go to the very last page in most cases,
where you'll find the MIDI Implementation Chart. This will tell you all
kinds of useful things about the instrument's MIDI response.

Hello again Nicole. I did what you told me to do, and it did not work. Then
I tried recording a track. When I did that it recorded the first track. Then
I tried to record another track with a different sound which was a base
sound. When I tried to chose the base sound for the second track I couldn't
get the base to pop up to record on that track. So that makes me believe
that it is not recognizing the instrument I chose. So where do I go from
thaire thanks.

First off, punctuation please. Sorry, I'm a writer, so that really bugs me
when folks don't use punctuation, and doubly so when it's a blind person who
claims it's a disability thing.
But on to the topic, it's a pretty simple layout here. Metronome ticks are
MIDI notes sent to whatever port you tell them to go to, sending whatever
notes you tell them to go to. So either you've got a configuration error in
your metronome page, or there's something not getting the message in your
sound source. Everything else is pretty much foolproof, and if the sequencer
can play and have your Yamaha play it back then there is no problem with
Windows, your MIDI interface if any, drivers, etc.
Double check your port. Check the note parameters for your ticks. Create a
track and get into the properties to set a preferred program on the right
channel, and set your volume to 127 just to be on the safe side. . This
should resolve your problem unless there's something wrong with your Yamaha,
either due to an intentional omission or something messed up in it.

Please explain exactly what you want to do. Are you trying to get the
metronome to play from your Yamaha sound source? If so then the first step
is to verify that your instrument has the sound you're looking for.
This is a problem in the realm of MIDI, not something dealing with operating
system stuff, so the reasons why this isn't working tend to be fairly simple
to figure out. My suspicion is that your Yamaha doesn't have anything on the
channel or on those particular keys. Sound layouts differ between
instruments.
One other thing -- if your Yamaha is XG compatible send an XG reset from
QWS. This tends to clean out some problems too.

Subject: QWS List Hello

I sent a message back to the group regarding the problem I was having with
qws. The settings in the metronome are set right I think. It works when I
choose to use it in qws but when I set it for my Yamaha it does not work, so
how do I fix it to work when I choose the Yamaha. It used to work and I
wonder if it is because I went to the latest version of windows 10 or is
there a setting in centrol panel to get it to work. Please mhelp me with
this problem thanks.
