I am not sure how and what Winamp does, but if you just have very simple needs one can store data in a simple file and it can be very fast. SBS uses mysql which is a bit overkill and eventhough powerfull a bit of a drag in this context. I assume that you are running 7.5.1; in that case you can look forward to 7.6.0. In 7.6.0 SQLite is replacing mysql as default database. The scanning is faster using SQLite, and SQLite is also used for handling the artwork to give it more snap. All in all 2-3 times faster. Unfortunately the rest of the web interface still needs a trim. I do not know any data of your collection or server, but below you can see the numbers for my last scan and the data for my server.
