Have got an improved result through the use of my htc desire phone as a
portable hotspot. The Phone acts as a wifi hotspot and the radio was
able to connect to it as does the laptop hosting the squeezebox server.
I have disabled the most of the background data services on the phone
but it still going through a bit of data which is quite expensive here
in New Zealand about 2mb in an hour. I am going to try with a DHCP
service on the laptop itself. What surprises me is that an a laptop can
not achieve the same ad-hoc wireless network controller that the phone
can.
It seems to me that especially the radio is suited to a very small
client to radio network. Perfect for life on the road and away on
holiday.
