Except that runs any embedded Ruby, producing only the output, and failing if any methods (like URL helpers etc) are undefined. Not useful on the whole. One advantage of HAML that hasn't been mentioned is that even in the presence of layouts and partials, the resultant HTML is neatly indented across the whole output file. It's not necessary, but it is nice. I don't agree with Tim that you can convert all designers to use HAML, as they must abandon the use of any HTML-only tools... but perhaps if you have designers who rely so heavily on tools, you should find new ones?
