Thank you for the info. At one time, 1980s and 190s, I used to assemble all the computers for my company and myself. Now, even when a client needs a super high end workstation, it is easier and cheaper to buy a pre-assembled unit or customize one on line. The volume pricing computer manufactures get for components more than offsets the assembly cost and you get support and a warranty as well. I don’t believe I have assembled one in over 20 years. My son is heavily into gaming and he assembles his own gear and updates individual components as needed. My time cost makes it prohibitive to do that myself and I can always find one for a lot less that I can assemble. Laptops are different insofar that you can’t really build one, you can only upgrade memory and hard disk and I still do this occasionally. I would add that I haven't bought any motherboard for any box that I assembled for my own use without using a Genuine Intel. Also, for each mainboard, check Intel's site for certified memory chips for that particular board. What screen resolution do you design your forms for? Most of my forms are still designed to fit inside a 1024x768 display since a lot of users had their OS and CPUs upgraded but are still stuck with old monitors. Our new screens will be designed for the now standard 1920x1080 which seems to be the current standard. Next question, I currently use two 23” 1920x1080 monitors side by side and by and large works reasonably well. I am now considering moving to one ultra-wide monitor (34”???). Seems like there is less stress on the video driving one ultra-wide than two standard resolution monitors unless you get a 4K monitor. I understand it is very subjective and also depends on desk space real estate but any thought on the subject would be appreciated. Last, I am looking at new laptop. I have had an Intel Core 7 laptop (with an upgraded SSD) and fortunately I bought the fastest processor available at the time and has served me very well for many years and still does. At one time, there were compatibility issues with AMD processors and being an old timer it still registers although I know that is no longer an issue. Some colleagues tell me the AMD Ryzen processor series is faster and cheaper than the comparable Intel. Any experience with either? I know you can’t go wrong with Intel but maybe the new generation of AMD processors are indeed the better choice.
