Sounds very much like what I do. I did say delete but of cource I have a
backup (in fact at least 3 Tape, my own C-drive plus the renamed db on
the network)
But yet I have experienced problem with 
         output filename.all
         unload all
         output screen
         disconnect
         rename db.rb* olddb.rb*
         run filename.all
where some of the tables come back with zero entries as compared to
reload where the enries is not gone.

What we do is:

         output filename.all
         unload all
         output screen
         disconnect
         rename db.rb* olddb.rb*
         run filename.alll

The key here is the rename of the database rather than a delete.  Only 
caveat is that you must be sure that "olddb.rb*" does not exist in the 
current directory; otherwise, when you "run filename.all" you'll be 
duplicating your data.  But this technique leaves the original database 
intact in case the process fails somehow.  All you have to do then is 
rename it back to the original name.
