1) agree ( I use it when I am lazy and know I have backup) 2) agree ( My normal practise ) 3) agree ( even if I only practised it very little)
I know exactly what was lost in the process but can not understand why. That makes me nervous even if I am confident that I have recovered 99.99999999% plus % more Gunnar -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Ben Petersen Sent: den 11 december 2002 11:53 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Unload all/Reload/ Pack Gunnar, 1) Pack is risky also because there is no organic back up in the process. 2) Reload leaves the original so you can compare the two databases. Probably the best/easiest routine for regular maintenance. 3) Unload all followed by running the output file is the best routine for cleaning up problems with the database itself, and might be superior to #2 for maintenance. Someone on this list suggested: Sel (sum(sys_num_rows)) fro sys_tables from each database (old and new) in #2 and #3 above. Then you will know if there were any rows lost in the process. I do this each time. Ben Petersen On 11 Dec 2002, at 18:24, Gunnar Ekblad wrote: > Has someone a guidence? > 1. If I do a pack I understand I take a chance on no power breakdown. > 2.
