Garth No problem. I found building up this aspect of the Bombadil to be a little puzzling, but it was worth getting right. FYI, I found out after buying a couple of BB's that Phil will switch spindles on BB's for about 1/3 what a new BB costs.
My Carmina crank (a 180mm, by the way - my PBH is 37") is the version with the inside anodized/polished. I'm familiar with the difference between that and the "newer," bead blasted, one as described on Peter White's site. The spider on these cranks actually came off of a set of 175mm bead-blasted-version arms that was running on my Atlantis with a 113 BB. I'm not sure if the triple spider changed between versions (see below). The BB length I used before I ran into the clearance issue with the RF ring was a 113mm Phil. It did work on the Bombadil with the TA ring, albeit with very little clearance. To be clear, this was with the anodized, "old version" cranks. According to PW's site, these cranks should be fine with the 113mm BB. Obviously, they are not since changing the chainring was all it took to eliminate any clearance. I have to wonder whether it's the SPIDER that makes the difference and not the arms. So, I say get the new version triple with a 119mm Phil BB and you should be good. If you get good results, perhaps then we can update the RBW owners BB list regarding the Carmina for the benefit of all. By saying, "119 Phil BB (centered)" I meant that it is a symmetrical spindle and that I've centered it in the BB shell. I have used Phil BB's on other bikes where I've shifted a symmetrical BB over a few mm in the BB shell for better chainline. Thanks for the info on the FD. I'll keep on looking for one that will work, although I've finally got the bike running well with low enough gears on the pricey Carmina for MTB duty. In fact, I'm pretty happy with the current set up which is 8 speed 11-32 rear and 46/34/22 up front with barend ultegra shifters. Good luck with your build.
