Re: fixed gear on a single speed hub - I would recommend using the Rotafixa method (http://204.73.203.34/fisso/eng/schpignone.htm) to tighten the cog down with before threading on the bottom bracket lockring. It's an incredibly effective method of tightening - but make sure you have a rag betwixt the chain and the bottom bracket shell to save your paint (or use a frame that you don't care about as giant chainwhip).
