I was never happy with clips and straps -- some of which came from pulling my foot out while racing -- so I switched to Look in 1984 and never looked back. I used SPD and Ritchey, and have settled on Time ATAC for the last decade or so. All of my bikes except one have Time; the only exception has Thin Gripsters. I've never liked barend shifters either, but I like steel bikes and Riv.
