With or without fenders?

Compass tires seem to run narrow, so perhaps the Barlow Pass, nominally 38. It has been too long since I owned a Sam, but I seem to recall it could handle, perhaps, true 38s and fenders; certainly true 35s with fenders. If no fenders, then at least the Barlow Pass and perhaps the Snoqualmie Pass.

And: choose the Extralight models. If my 28-29 mm (actual) Elk Passes are any indication, any of those will handle rough pavement very easily, with sealant (I prefer Orange Seal, but I think that Stan's may have improved its product since I last bought some circa 2014). I ride my Elk Pass extralights in gravel and firmish dirt; if it wasn't for our sand, I'd be happy with the Snoqualmie Pass on my Matthews, but the added width and slight tread of the Furious Freds do add value in sandy and rougher dirt.

Frankly, I wonder why one would bother with the "standard" casings, except to save money.

Less cost, more robust sidewalls (if you've been having problems) and most of the performance of the EL casings at a significantly reduced cost (and yes, I mentioned cost twice because it's the most important reason)

Patrick Moore, who got road flat #1 today, on the front Elk Pass EL for the '99 gofast -- I think the sealant had partially dried out after a year or so. (Pre sealant, I used to buy Remas in quantities of 2 boxes of 100 at a time.)

Which ones would you all recommend for an urban commute on not

I would use Stan's or similar in Schwalbe extralight tubes to try
and keep the weight reasonable and still reduce the number of
flats as close to my ideal (0) as possible.
    What say you wise ones?
