Laing hit the nail on the head for me. I like to fool around with 30-40 year old frames and components, overhauling, sometimes repainting (rattle can, of course), etc. Right now I'm in the middle of rebuilding an old early-70's Shimano Crane short-cage rear derailleur that I plan to install on a '72 vintage frame with 120mm rear spacing/5-speed freewheel hubs. You just can't fiddle around with the modern stuff like that anymore. Sure, sometimes you have to surf around on fleaBay or Craigslist, go to swap meets, and what not, but it's all fun and intriguing, this looking back in time and reviving some of the old equipment. Resurrectio, it's called and for good reason. The Riv approach to cycling underscores this kind of hobby because the frames are never so far out bounds that you can't tweak things a bit here and there to wind up with some personally customized result. Call it what you want, but that's what I consider "Rivish."
